"Her name is Copper," Adam said. It didn't really surprise him that the other guy's attention was drawn to the dog; he probably would have been too, especially in an embarrassing moment.

Copper wasn't worried about social niceties. She just flopped in front of the boy, submitting herself for pets and admiration.
