Jason McConnell, 18, is one of the principal characters in the musical, Bare. He's a senior at St. Cecelia's, a Catholic boarding school, and struggling with his sexuality. He's arriving after suffering from a breakup with his boyfriend, Peter, and overdosing on GHB.

Richard Campbell Gansey III waits in line for coffee at the local cafe. Lots of coffee. At least four cups of coffee, two of them for himself. It's a study break for him and his at the library, where they've been nose-to-page for the last three hours, reading up on Darrow. Looking to see if she has any ley lines, and if so, where her ley lines are hiding.

When the barista finally loads up a cup carrier for him, he's turned and rushing out the door quickly, eager to get back to work. So eager that he nearly mows down some poor kid right outside the door as he bolts out.

"My lord," Gansey says, startled and apologetic. "I'm sorry! Didn't see you coming."

He doesn't know why he isn't dead, Jason thinks, hands stuffed in his pockets as he leans against the side of a cafe he's debating going into. Awakening on a train several days ago had been unsettling, to say the least. The looks he got when asking whether or not Heaven was supposed to look like this were even more so.

He wonders if it is Fate that has brought him here, to start anew. He thinks of Peter with a pang in his chest; he wonders if he's here too.

He grimaces, before deciding the hell with it, and making his way indoors for a drink.

He's startled out of his thoughts by a young man nearly toppling into him, hands full with a drink carrier.

"Oh," Jason grins, falling into his old routine as easily as sliding on his old jersey. His pondering can keep itself company, for now. "Don't worry about it, man. Happens to the best of us, right?"

He can't help but notice the kid is very attractive, even as it makes him wince.

"Can I help you with that?" He gestures to the drinks.

"Oh," Gansey says, staring at the boy for a little too long until what he is offering really sinks in. It's been a long day, and Gansey's mind is elsewhere, floating through the clouds, floating through the ages. All on the mysteries of Darrow.

"Oh. Yes. Actually, yes, I would really like some help. So nice of you to ask."

He juggles the cup carrier and everything else in his arms a little poorly before sticking out one hand for a congenial shake, a presidential smile gracing his lips.

"Gansey."

He thinks of Peter, again, as the other boy stares at him. Peter used to stare at him too long, too, and Jason would always tease him for it, or outright berate him if they were too out in the open. He blinks to try and root himself in the present.

"No problem," he assures him, moving to help ease some of the burden from the other kid's arms.

"Jason," he says with an equally winning smile, reaching out to shake his hand. "A pleasure to meet you."
